The interesting thing about this song is that it is basically the same thing over and over again. This song – according to Jane’s Addiction is about an actual person names Jane with a heroin habit and an abusive boyfriend name Sergio.  I guess Sergio used to live with a bunch of the band members in a house in Hollywood before the band got big. She would always talk about saving up money and getting away – some of the song lyrics support this. This song glamorized her life in a way.

This song is based around your textbook G, D and A. Really not all that complicated. It has a few fills within and a couple variations of chords but for the most part, not that bad. Make sure you know your basic chords before trying to play Jane Says and keep working on your transitions between chords. This song is a great exercise to practice your transitions.

How do I get my guitar to sound like the one used in the song?

They used an acoustic 6 string to play the main part but I think there also might be a 12 string in there too. I would use any acoustic guitar with very light or light guitar strings. Mine are a bit thick when played over the song making it sound a little off.

Overall, Jane Says is a great song, It totally takes me back to the 90’s. I love also how simple this song is. This song is the same thing over and over again so it should only take a little while to learn how to play. This was one of the easiest guitar lessons for beginners that I’ve done so far. I really hope you can learn this song fast so you can go out there and impress your friends. This song is played a little bit fast, just remember to slow it down and learn it slow.
